Glossary > Eth 2.0
Eth 2.0 is an upgrade of the Ethereum network as we know it today. The goal is to make the network more scalable and accessible.
One of Eth 2.0 key upgrades is to switch from a proof-of-work consensus model to a proof-of-stake consensus. It will make mining more accessible and less energy-consuming. This is one of the biggest issues of PoW consensus.
Eth 2.0 also aims at reducing network fees that can vary drastically depending on the period. In August 2021, the London hard fork changed the fee calculating system to make them less prone to high increases.
The deployment of Eth 2.0 has already started but with a full deployment schedule in late 2021 or in 2022.
