The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (also known as BaFin) is the regulatory body for financial markets in Germany.
BaFin is an independent federal institution under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Finance. BaFin's role is to supervise and ensure the stability of financial markets in Germany. It supervises banks, financial services, payment services, electronic money services, pensions funds, etc. BaFin also overviews cryptocurrencies. Crypto custodians and exchanges must for example register with the regulator and comply with AML rules.
